Last week I had to close the salon, and stop visiting freelance clients, as advised by the government due to the serious rise of the Covid 19 virus. This is a huge blow to me and many many businesses too as we lose our income, for some of us, it is our only source of income.
Whilst I’ve been coming to terms with having to temporarily close the salon, you, my clients, are faced with also dealing with the pandemic and all the issues and problems it brings, one of these being not being able to have your hair done.
Last week on The One Show there were a couple of shows that included cutting your own hair :-0 and Michael Douglass advising you to home colour your hair!!! Michael Douglass has since apologised to the whole of the hairdressing industry for his ill thought out advice re using home hair colour. I’m not going to say anymore regarding him as I don’t want the blog to be about that, suffice to say I’ll be chatting more about home hair colours in future blogs and these will go some way to explain why I regard his comments and advice as thoughtless.
We’ve also seen lots of memes around about cutting hair at home and the disasters that can happen with home hair dyes. There’s also lots of videos out there too. At times, it can seem a little frivolous, vain and not really important. Worrying about hair when there is all this going on around us, people seriously ill, some dying. However, as we are forced to self isolate and socially distance ourselves to try to keep ourselves, our loved ones and others safe, we worry. Our lives have been turned upside down, some more than others. This could be exacerbated by hair concerns, no matter how small or trivial they may usually seem, these issues are now huge!! The implications for our mental health is that these, usually trivial concerns, can magnify and add to our worry and upset. We all need to adopt a stiff upper lip approach and to support each other as best we can.
One of the ways I can support my clients at this time is to offer advice and tips for your hair care at home during this lock down period and beyond. Over the next few weeks and more, I’ll be sharing advice on managing your hair colour and doing a couple of how to videos for cutting your fringe. You can contact me for any advice regarding your hair and I will try my very best to answer any questions you may have.
Stay safe everyone
